Shipments from the U.S. to Canada need the following documents:
- Bill of Lading - required at pickup
- Canada Customs Invoice - required at pickup if the shipment is valued at $1,600 (CDN) or more. If the shipper has special document requirements or arrangements with the importer/broker and does not require an invoice, it must be noted on the bill of lading. (Certain commodities may require a CCI and a commercial invoice.
- Commercial Invoice - may be required
- Shipper’s Export Declaration (SED) - may be required
- NAFTA Certificate of Origin - may be required for regulated commodities such as alcohol, firearms, tobacco, etc. (Shipments traveling through Canada for export to another country may require a SED.)
